The plots here show the response of one cell to small bright circles or random dots .
The cell is direction selective at most tested locations, although the strength of the direction selectivity is not uniform. A strong direction selective response is present within and outside the receptive field mapped with stationary stimuli. A similar direction selective response outside the receptive field mapped with stationary stimuli was consistently found in ML and L cells in the squirrel extrastriate cortex.
Random dots elicit a more homogeneous response than circles in this cell. The response is remarkably transient (more so than to bright circles) -see the temporal reverse correlation movie .
